Let's dive in! Alright you guys, we are kicking off this episode with an embarrassing story. And this is going to be kind of a food for thought episode because we had an experience the other day that highlighted some things that we've been thinking about. So here's what happened. So Monica and I moved into this new basement apartment in Yellowstone if you guys haven't. So Monica and I moved into this cabin up near Yellowstone that we are co-hosting on Airbnb for the summer. And we have this cute little basement apartment and a bathroom right outside of our bedroom. And we were having a problem with our sink not draining. And I think it was like, I don't know, two or three days. It was a long time. I was looking underneath the sink trying to see what the problem was. We went to Walmart and we bought some Draino. We poured Draino. We poured half a bottle of Draino into the sink thinking that we would just let it sit and do its thing. And it didn't even go through the drain. It all just sat in the sink. It didn't even seep into the pipes. We were like, well that's a problem because it's not going to break up anything that's in the pipes clogging it. So we started going through possible solutions. The Draino's not even getting in there so maybe we need to go get one of those little snake things and wiggle it down there and try and unclog it that way. And maybe we're going to have to undo the pipes underneath the sink. I'm thinking, I'm not a plumber. I don't know how to do that, but I can try. So we're kind of going through these worst case scenarios of what the problem is. If we let it sit for like a full day, then eventually it drains. But obviously that's not going to work. So we are going through kind of worst case scenarios trying to figure out how we're going to fix the sink. And then something clicks in my hand. I'm like, wait a minute. And I take a closer look and the whole time for three whole days, the drain stopper was in our drain. It was clicked shut. It was one of those ones that's like built into the sink. So you click it and it's closed and then you click it again and it's open. So as soon as I clicked it open, the sink works perfectly. There wasn't a single thing wrong with it. It was just for three days we didn't realize that the sink stopper was in holding all of that water back. It was the dumbest thing. It was so dumb. And you know what? Our sink was disgusting because you know how when water sits it kind of gets like slimy. But it was draining just enough for us to think that it was just clogged, right? So every day we'd wake up and we'd have an empty sink and then throughout the day it would get filled up and filled up and filled up and then we'd go to bed and we'd wake up and we'd have an empty sink again. So it was draining just enough that we never questioned if the drain was even open. It never ever even crossed my mind. It was such a simple solution. And when this happened, for me it was a really interesting parallel or analogy to our business journey sometimes. To explain that a little bit more, a lot of times we claim that we want success. We have these goals of making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year and having X amount of clients and only working part time but still making a living. Whatever success looks like for you, we claim to have these goals of success and we go through crazy lengths sometimes trying to find solutions to get us from where we are to that success that we want. So sometimes we invest tons of money or tons of time, energy into different programs or softwares or different systems or coaches or whatever it is. We try one solution after another. We're looking for some big grand lofty solution that's going to come in, save the day, fix the problem and take us to that success that we want. And we're hoping that something is just magically going to work. And most of the time we're hoping that this is a one size fits all answer, right? So when Austin and I, when the drain stopped working, we instantly thought, Drayno. That's worked for us in the past, that's worked for other people, it's a proven method. We ended up driving an hour to the nearest store because we're really, really remote. There's no stores around us. So we were an hour to the store. It wasn't just for Drayno but we did make sure we picked up Drayno on the hour long drive. We went back, we put it in the sink and we're like, great, this is going to fix everything. Everything's going to be just perfect after this. We honestly thought that was going to be the solution to all of our problems and then it didn't work. So instead of questioning, okay, why didn't it work? We're like, okay, what's the next big thing we can do? Let's go get a snake thing, whatever that thing is called. So we were constantly looking for somebody else to fix the problem when the problem was us. The whole time the problem was us not taking a close enough look at our sink. I think a lot of times in business, the problem is ourselves and maybe it's our funnels or our business is working just enough that we can taste success, that we know we can do it but not enough to fully be relishing in the success of our business. That is such a powerful metaphor to me. I think about how many times that our website was working, getting us clients, just enough for me to think, great, my website's working. And then someone came to me and like, hey, by the way, this link does not even work. So I think sometimes we are pacified by the little amounts of success we're getting, by the little bit that our drain is draining, that we don't take the time to do the inner work to ask the hard questions and to figure out if we are actually getting in our own way or not. Yeah, sometimes just like all I needed to do was take a little bit of closer look at our drain and push that little drain stopper to find out that that was the problem. Sometimes we just need to take a little bit closer look at ourselves. Maybe that drain stopper is our own limiting beliefs or our own self-sabotaging or our own imposter syndrome. It's some mindset belief that we have that's holding us back from the success that we want and we're not willing to look at that because that's too easy. That couldn't be the problem. The problem must be something external, something outside and we don't take the time to think that problem. Maybe it's as simple as changing how I think about something. Maybe it's as simple as believing that I can act like honestly, honestly, truly from the core of your being, believing that you can be successful. And maybe that's the only change that you need to start letting all of this success flow into your life. So all we need to do is just unplug that. Just take a closer look at ourselves and unplug that for ourselves. Yeah, I really think by doing this, we can prepare ourselves for success. If we aren't doing the internal work, if we aren't doing the mental work, if we aren't taking a close look at ourselves, asking ourselves the really hard questions, putting in the hard work, we're not going to be ready for success and it's not going to come. And before you dismiss this as just like a super fluff podcast episode, I really want to just take a second and dive into the fact that when you mentally are prepared for success, when you can taste it, when you feel it in every fiber of your being, you show up differently. You show up differently, you bring a different energy, you attract a different energy and more people are there. They're going to rally around you. They're going to believe in you. They're going to believe in your business because you believe in you and you believe in your business. And it really all does start with you. So really, the point of this episode is to encourage you to challenge your limiting thoughts, your limiting beliefs, to challenge your behaviors and to encourage you to take a look at yourself and see if maybe there's something in you that's blocking your success. Because honestly, sometimes the simplest solution just lies within ourselves. Thanks so much for joining us here on the Profitable Nomad Couple podcast. We appreciate you listening to us today.
